Artist: Tope Alabi
Tope Alabi was born on the 27th October, 1970 in Lagos State, Nigeria.
Her parents are Pa Joseph Akinyele Obayomi and Madam Agnes Kehinde Obayomi. She was the only daughter out of the three children in the family.
She hails from Yewa, Imeko of Ogun State.
She obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) at Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Bashorun Anlugbua, Ibadan in the year 1986.
Thereafter, she proceeded to The Polythecnic , Ibadan where she studied Mass Communication and graduated in the year 1990.
Tope Alabi pursued her educational attainment with all seriousness and dedication it deserves because her parents were disciplinarians of the highest order.
Between 1982 to 1984 during her secondary school days and because of her interest in music and drama, Tope Alabi joined the then "Jesters International" ( Jacob, Papilolo & Aderupoko) group at Ibadan, where she got her initial training and experience in drama.
She worked briefly with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Ibadan as a correspondent under the supervision of Mr. Yanju Adegbite.
She also worked at NTA Channel 7 Tejuosho (Now NTA Channel 10, Lagos) between 1990 & 1991.
She worked with Centrespread Advertising Limited, at Ilupeju area of Lagos and worked with this Company within the year 1991 - 1992; she has worked with Re-Union Nigeria Limited, Gbagada, Lagos.
Patricia Temitope Alabi came back into the Theartre Art profession as she joined the prestigious "Alade Aromire Theartre Group" in 1994. Here, she was able to distinguish herself as a gifted and talented actress and singer.
At Alade Aromire Thearre Group, Tope Alabi was exposed to all the core area of drama and acting profession. She was involved in various film productions, stage drama and most importantly the soundtrack production with which she was well known and considered as an authority in the Nigeria Yoruba Movie industry today.
If there is anything Tope Alabi would be ever grateful for while with the Alade Aromire Threatre Group, it's her exposure to and subsequent domination of the Yoruba Movie soundtrack production.
Tope Alabi has been invited by various writers, producers and directors in the Yoruba movie industry to write and perform sound tracks for their various movies, she had to her credit to date, about 350 soundtracks which she had composed for various Yoruba movies.
It would be of note to state here that Tope Alabi is the pacesetter of soundtracks in the Yoruba Home Video Industry.
Her calling
Right from her childhood, the Lord revealed it to her mother, through prophesies from men of God that her only daughter (Tope) would be a servant of God.
From her High School days, Tope Alabi was actively involved in her home Church Choir.
By the year 1988, a man of God gave Tope Alabi a divine message that God wanted her to be a vessel unto honour for Himself by singing in order to win souls to HIS kingdom.
When Tope met with her husband Mr. Soji Alabi, Soji saw the talents in this lady and told her that she can actually live her life and use her talents for Jesus. After some time, Mr Alabi (now Tope's Husband) was successful at leading Tope to Christ and she became born again.
Albums
Her first Gospel Album titled Baba Iwo La Kepe, though not really popular, heralds the fulfillment of God's divine purpose in the life of Tope Alabi.
Thereafter, the Lord personally revealed to her through dreams in the year 2000 that she will be a minister unto HIM. This gave her a personal conviction that the Lord actually needs her to work for HIM.
Tope Alabi started work on her second Album titled Oore Ti O Common (Uncommon Favor) by January 2001and eventually it was released to the market in September 2001 by Remdel Optimum Communications Ltd.
Because of God's divine purposes for her life, God gave Oore Ti o Common a tremendous push and it was the album that shot Tope Alabi into limelight in the Gospel Music Industry. And the Album makes waves both in the Nigeria and abroad.
After this Album was released, Tope was announced and began to receive invitations from various churches by renowned men of God for ministrations. She also began to receive massive invitations to minister in other Christian activities.
The Holy Spirit has always been backing this woman up in all the places she has ministered till date (God is faithful).
The Lord has been mightily using this HIS minstrel to spiritually meet with the needs of thousands of people.
Her third Album Certificate sold in the thousands, both at home and abroad.
Exactly six months after the release of Certificate, the Lord led her to release the next album, which is to be a double album. And on 1st December, 2005 Agbara Olorun & Agbara Re Ni (a Double-Album) was released to the market. That was the first time a gospel artiste will release a double album at once in Nigeria.
She has also released a special record (this was done after the double album) in wish she solely ministered in the Word of God, she titled the album Kokoro Igbala.
Angeli Mi was released in Nigeria in the year 2008, though it had been released months before then in the United States.
One of her most unique albums was released April 2009, She titled this one Mori 'Yanu.
These albums are fast moving in the market and the testimonies of how they have positively affected the lives of so many people are overwhelming.
Atijo is her first movie released in the year 2007.
Family
Tope and Soji Alabi actually met in the year 1994; then Soji Alabi works as a studio Engineer.
Soji Alabi has been handling Tope's various soundtracks and even her albums. Mr Soji handles Tope's work with high professionalism.
Their relationship was a platonic one initially but after some time, in the year 1998 to be precise, they started their courtship and on the 16th November 2000, they became married.
Tope and Soji Alabi shared and believed in the same vision and goal and the Lord has been helping them in the actualization of this vision.
Soji, a first class Studio Engineer and Producer has single-handedly produced all Tope Alabi's records till date.
The fame and popularity of Tope Alabi, also known as "Agbo Jesu" (someone that hears and receives instructions from JESUS CHRIST) in the Nigeria Gospel Music scene is so overwhelming. Testimonies from her various outdoor ministrations of how the Lord has mightily used her to meet with peoples' need abounds.
Through their joint effort, the Lord has helped Tope and Soji Alabi to establish JOHNPAT STUDIOS, (which is a studio of their own) in Lagos, Nigeria. This new studio will help enhance their productions. It will also be a blessing to upcoming artistes that would look forward to producing their works from JOHNPAT STUDIOS.
