In the very crowded world of Pop music, Ms. Jaie unique sound has a beautiful blend of modern r&b, soul and urban African sound. Her music somehow ties the tradition together while placing her own exceptional stamp and personality on it.
Born in London England of Nigerian parents her real names; Janine Ayorinde Temitope Dada. She quickly gained her nickname 'Jaiye' at the age of 6 months because her grandparent found it too difficult to pronounce her French- originating first name. Ms.Jaie grew up in a household where music was a major focus. Traveling across the UK with her father’s talent agency, she was exposed to the highest quality of talent giving her a unquenchable thirst for music. Spending a lot of her time surrounded by adult music provided comfort and a way for young Ms.jaie to document her experiences As she recalls," I remember the first time I truly fell in love with music everyone was off working and I was alone at home, my auntie had just bought a new cd player and I was in awe. I slipped in a cd and what came out through the speakers became the most amazing voices I had ever heard... I must have played the song with me by Destiny's child a hundred times “. She decided on that day she wanted to put her voice on a cd even though she had no clue. After that day, music then became a journal with every song painting a picture like a chapter from a novel. She began writing poems that later formed some her best songs she always ended each one of her poems with words from the mind of an angel.
She left home at the age of 18 to continue pursuing her music dreams moved to New York. After her audition for P. Diddy’s Badboy Records, it opened up her songwriting skill she was not aware she had she began developing as a song writer. She was flown to Los Angeles and immediately began working on songs for other signed acts. After a while, Ms. Jaie realised that her amazing writing abilities were beginning to overshadow her dreams to become a recording artist. She packed her bags with a newly recorded demo and returned to the UK to make her dreams something not only seen at night. On getting the UK, She got signed to Unit 2 Records in April 2010. Although, she got her internet buzz going for her and she was playing gigs but she became frustrated after a while. Ms. Jaie wanted to make music that represented her roots but needed the right type of team around her to make the vision work.
Fast forward 2011, she made up her mind to move back home to Lagos and began searching for a new Record label that can communicate her vision to the entire world. after several meetings, she was still unsure of what label to work with until she stumbled across the Storm 360 website her instincts told her this was the label she wanted to call home. After a quick search she located Tola Odunsi on facebook and dropped him an email after one listen Tola told Ms. Jaie, "Pack your bags your life’s about to change."As soon as she got to Lagos, she began her attempt to fuse everything she was exposed to she wanted to create a sound that was new and fresh. She began merging international genres, combining her native Nigerian sound with her unique spin of pop with a slight Caribbean edge. " I call my music afro pop it’s honestly a mixture of everything I've been exposed to growing up all blended together and mixed with a beat that makes you want to dance." She says. Listening to her music, you can hear the influence of her favourite musicians. From the music Soulchild influenced lyrical content, the Destiny’s Child influenced vocal progression and the Soul-filled Brandy influenced arrangements.
Presently working with her new team at Storm Records, Ms. Jaie is ready to put her timeless footprints on the sands of time. Her new single 'Korrect Guy' is the perfect representation of that fusion “I'm single at the moment and people always ask me what I'm looking for and I always reply... I'm just looking for a Korrect guy. People then ask, well what’s a Korrect guy? So I thought I'd explain the best way I know how, through song." In her Ms.Jaie's highly charismatic personality is ever present in her music giving her songs Purpose and likeability while offering the African music industry and the world over, a breath of fresh air. The second single; “The One” is like the answer to Korrect Guy just like the next chapter of the story. "The one is like a Romeo meets Juliet but with a fairytale ending. It’s about the perfect type of love, the type you dream of. The type of love that almost makes you a little afraid but warms your heart at the same time. It’s about what will happen after you meet your Korrect guy or girl."
