Artist: Mr Cee
Mr. Cee, as he is wildly known was born Molefe Simon Mmakola, in Mamelodi, West of Pretoria in South Africa. As a young boy he became intrigued by music but didn’t want to just listen but to create the magical sounds that brought so many ecstasy. He has since relocated to Johannesburg, which is where his dreams started becoming a reality a decade ago. Mr. Cee, or ‘Cee’ as he is known by friends, started Deejaying House music in the year 2000.
He began his Deejaying career as a resident DJ in a number of prominent night clubs around Johannesburg. Cee became popular with the regulars who frequented the clubs in which he played; this gave him the confidence to expand his reach to his fans.
Mr. Cee then ventured into Events; he was already well acquainted with his market and knew exactly what they wanted. He did all of this while studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Witwatersrand. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, Cee could no longer further his studies, with only a short way left for him to complete his degree.
Not one to be put down by his circumstances, Mr. Cee then decided to take his music career to a new direction. He went into the business of the music world. Having acquired his father’s knack for business, Cee decided to start his own company. Cee founded his company BlackwHole Entertainment in 2003. A diverse character with many talents, Mr. Cee is founder and CEO of the company and a DJ and producer as well.
BlackwHole Entertainment has since enjoyed many successes under the wing of the man behind it. A few years after the inception of BlackwHole Entertainment, Cee created ‘BlackwHole’ which is a project that features up-and-coming songwriters. Under ‘BlackwHole’, Cee started producing and licensing music for various successful compilations; such as ‘Jozi Knights’, ‘Mmthi’s 4’, ‘House Kollectives’, ‘Definition of House’, ‘House Flavaz Fo Sho’, ‘Durban’s Finest’ and ‘Electro Candi’ to name but a few.
As a producer, Mr. Cee has released six albums to date. The House albums, “On Another Level”, “On Another Level Remixes”, “DJ Aero -Still Black”, “DJ Veany - Enter the wHole”, “Good Life House Selections Vol1” and “Unidentified Level”. To top that all off, Cee is in preparations for the release of another album.
In his Deejaying capacity, Mr. Cee has not been one to keep his talents only on home ground. He has had a tour where he played in various locations around England. He frequents countries such as Botswana and Lesotho regularly. Cee has also played in countries such as Swaziland and Malaysia. Mr. Cee rubs shoulders with other great international and local DJs such as UPZ, DJ Veany, DJ Fresh, Kent, Black Coffee and Rocco.
For the cherry on top, Mr. Cee has begun bringing international greats to South Africa with his latest project ‘BlackwHole Invitations’ which came to life mid 2009. His aim is to bring young South Africans with big dreams closer to their international idols with these tours. In the process, Cee wants to show South African youth that anything is possible no matter what your circumstances.
