Artist: Irene Logan
If music is the food of life then let it play on. The story of this diva starts on a rather ill-fated note. Born on the 16th February, 1984, Irene Logan made an entry into this world with a message. Her’s was a world of creativity and sheer talent. Although Irene has lived most of her life in Ghana, she was born to Liberian parents.
Her father and brother died when she was virtually growing. Upon moving to Ghana, her mother got married to a Ghanaian. She grew up surrounded by music, a sphere of soul and pop, her step-dad a guitarist and singer while her mother sang professionally too. She held a microphone as early as age 3. Her experience with the mic came so natural that people around knew by intuition that she will be great.
At age 5, she performed at the National Theatre with the Christian Action Faith Ministry. It was a gospel rock show where they sang 'People need the Lord'. She was also a choir leader at Achimota School.
She went on to perform at various places, including weddings, churches, and even Miss Teen Personality 2002. She also won an Opera Singing Competition and a song-writing competition for a Fanta song she composed with some friends.
She was part of a group called S-Touch which also featured Salimi Akill, Richie, Ferguson and Selassie Hanson. What brought her out was one of Ghana’s finest reality music shows. In 2006 Irene participated in and won the maiden edition of stars of the Future.
Irene and Jane were discovered through Charterhouse's Stars of the Future contest where Irene emerged the winner and was declared Ghana’s International Music Star and Jane came in third. There connection betwwenthe two songstresses was incontestable and hence the team up. They have blended their talents and had awe-inspiring experiences working together after spending most of their lives as solo artistes.
Their debut video featuring the hit single, Heat it up, features Nana Tuffour aka NeezBuck (University of Pennsylvania) while their Unveiled album also features Amandzeba Nat Brew, Blu3 (Uganda) and Wutah.
Some of their songs include Odo kai, Baby, Ding dong, Girl power, Don't wanna be lonely, Don't give up, Rivers, Always, etc.
They won the Best Female Vocal Performance award in the 2008 Ghana Music Awards. They were also nominated for the 2008 Kora Award and Channel O Music Video Award. Irene and Jane have split up and both are pursuing solo careers.
Since she went solo, she has had brief spells with Deluxe Entertainment House & Lynx Entertainment. She signed on to Lynx Entertainment in 2008.
Irene's first single, Runaway, features Asem, her label mate on Lynx Entertainment and was a mammoth hit. Her soul-african hit song “KABILA” has put her on the verge of the continent and has given her exposure and sent the message that versatility is of the essence. She embodies the very essence of resourcefulness in music.
She signed on in May 2009 to become an ambassador for Telecommunications Giant, Globacom.
