Read the statement below.
'With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30 p.m. in the evening. We consider this period a gloomy moment forus and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her.
'She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.'
Meanwhile, the remains of Goldie who hails from Ekiti State, Nigeria, has been deposited at the mortuary of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos.
Mysterious:multifaceted:extremely intelligent: are just some of the words used to describe singer and songwriter Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey. This elusive diva famously known as GOLDIE, graces the Nigerian music scene with an unconventional 'pop' genre.
Born into a strict, disciplinarian family of six, in the South-West of Nigeria, in the early 80’s.
The young Susan’s world was centred pre-dominantly around Church activities, so much so that by the tender age of five, she could recite an impressive amount of Bible verses by heart. Her social circle was limited to within the walls of the Church, where her family spent most of their time, as her Mother was a Choir Mistress and Father, a Pastor.
The adventurous Susan however, found a way to break free of the limitations that surrounded her; by escaping into the world of Music as created by the likes of Abba and Celine Dion.
‘Goldie’ as she would later be known as by teems of adoring fans, desperately wanted to express herself, having been inspired by the Music, but was held captive by a deep shyness and the laws of her strict upbringing.
This self expression was discovered while she was studying for a degree in the UK. She has since been signed on to Kennis Music and gone on to win multiple awards for her hit single 'You know it'.
