Artist: Ebiere
Ebiere Ohochukwu popularly known as Ebiere is one of Nigeria’s foremost female vocalists and entertainer. She was born in Teme clinic Port Harcourt city in Rivers state Nigeria, to the family of Hon. Dcn. (dr.) Breayi Ekiye and Pastor Mrs. Lilian Ekiye on August the 24th 1980 and she is the second out of five children. She hails from Adagbabiri town in Bayelsa state, Nigeria. She is married and blessed with two lovely boys.
She started singing at the age of six and has never stopped. She started out in a chidrens choir and at the age of nine she joined the adult choir in The Rock Word Church where she served as a lead singer for 8 years at the age of 20 she was appointed the music director of the eastern zone choir of Christ embassy and also served as the zonal representative of Christ embassy Praise team world wide, where she ministered on various platforms as a member of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s praise team.
She had her primary, secondary and tertiary education in Port Harcourt, Nigeria; and while at school she was always identified for her special singing ability. She holds a certificate in theatre arts from the University of Port Harcourt and a certificate in music from the prestigious Middlesex University in London, United Kingdom and she intends to further her education in the near future. While in the university of Port Harcourt she won the best female vocalist award in the theatre arts department for three consecutive years, and in 2006 she won the best Nigerian female vocalist for the gospel music achievers award. Her debut album “Yekileme (Why me)” which was produced and released in 2006 by her former record label company west side music, was a hit with producers like cobhams, victor okon, King buskie and Romantic Rolly . That album gave her a solid platform in the Nigerian music industry.
As an artist she has performed in various churches and circular events within and outside Nigeria. She is known for her inspiring lyrics. She is a gospel artiste but will use various genres of music to reach a wider audience, as she would often say “you can’t keep shining light in light” she also believes in singing about her personal experiences with the aim of inspiring her listeners.
Her versatility shows in the various genres of music that she sings and how effectively she delivers them, weather it is R and B, jazz, soul, Rock or Nigerian mainstream, the one sure thing about her music is that it vibrant, inspirational and captivating and her voice is simply heavenly, she has an incredibly unique talent.
Her new single Omi olota produced by ojb is rapidly making waves across the country and is enjoying a lot of airplay on TV and Radio. Other producers on the new album are wale Oni, Victor Okon, King Buskie and Bonzo (Ghana). She is a member of The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria Rivers State chapter and has always supported the course of the association both financially and otherwise.
As a wife and mother, she believes in giving quality time to the home because the family is the singular most important area of her life, she believes that the family comes first and is always careful to ensure that her career does not put a strain on her family. She loves her family passionately and gives her family the very best of care and attention.
As a Christian she loves God deeply, she is born again and loves to pray, she craves to study the bible and pray daily, that place of prayer is a place of solace, rest and reassurance for her and she loves to dwell in Gods presence fellowshipping with him because it is what keeps her going in life.
She loves life, she loves to have fun, and she is very friendly but has a chosen few that she is very committed to. She likes to watch movies, read novels, swim, and exercise. She loves lounging with her close friends and loves shopping. She is very unassuming and very easy to relate with. She also loves people generally and has a heart for the less privileged.
She attends House on The Rock Port Harcourt church where she got married in 2004 and is involved with the music department of the church.
She is looking forward to building a standard music school in West Africa that will afford aspiring musicians the opportunity to get a proper music education.
She says “one of my greatest desires is to build a loving and a comfortable home for less privileged children in Rivers state and maybe Nigeria as a whole and also give to them quality education, the day I can accomplish that I am sure will be one of the happiest days of my life”.
