Artist: Cleopatra Koheirwe
She pursued Social Sciences at Makerere University although it was not her first choice as she could not afford tuition for Mass Communication at the time.
With time she fulfilled her dream thus pursuing a Correspondence Diploma in Community Journalism at the University of South Africa.
She is also a former member of the Obsession Dance Group which was quiet popular between 2001-2007.
She attributes her rapid rise to stardom to being part of the Obsession Dance Group. “It made me grow more as an individual,” recounts Cleo.
After six years of shaking her butt, Cleopatra left the Obsessions for acting. She got her major breakthrough in the movie world when she featured in the Last King Of Scotland in 2006.
TALENT
Cleopatra is an extra-ordinarily talented lady. She is a perfect writer, celebrated singer, and charming actress. She is also a presenter on Radio City, Kampala in the popular “Jam’’ show with Hakim from 3pm to 7pm.
Cleo has as well presented a couple of shows on WBS TV especially The Fitness Watch and Meet Our Elders from 2005-2008.
Gorgeous Cleo recently put her amazing writing skills to good use by authoring several society articles for African Woman Magazine. A few years later, curvy Cleo took over as editor for Fresh Sanitary And Health Magazine.
Cleo’s outstanding acting skills leave no shed of doubt she is on her way to being a great TV star.
She has acted in drama series such as Changes on Dstv, State Research Bureau, a drama series directed by Mart Bish, brother to re-known television and radio personality Roger Mugisha.
Others include; Yogera where she features as a twin; Divisions - a drama featuring Butcher man and Bobi wine and Be the Judge, a Kenyan local series where she got nominated for the Kalasha Film Television Award for best actress in a drama.
DREAM COMES TRUE
For Cleo being an actress, writer and singer is a dream that has come true. “I have always loved music and drama,” recounts the elegant actress.
I remember acting and singing before my relatives and they always said I would end up being an entertainer,” she tells Chimp Corp Yvonne Turahirirwe.
When off her busy schedule, Cleopatra loves watching TV series, listening to music and reading novels.
One of her favorite series is the popular new TV series Game Of Thrones and Brothers And Sisters, a family TV series.
Her favorite books include; The Power Of Positive Thinking (an inspiration book) and Paulo Coelho‘s Alchemist.
THORNS AND ROCKS
Cleo’s life journey hasn’t been an easy ride. She had to cope with the painful loss of her mother which was also a turning point for her.
It taught her to work harder and gave her a different perspective of life. “At times I was worried I would not go over my mum’s death. But it really pushed me to focus more,” weeps Cleo.
The actress was also scared of being abandoned as an orphan by her relatives. “I am glad they treated me nicely. They were very supportive,” recounts Cleo.
The young film industry is also a challenge for her. “Unlike developed countries, in Uganda you have to get people to be aware of your talent. To get appreciated isn’t easy. Definitely Uganda is not like Hollywood,” says the sexy actress.
ACHIEVER:
Cleo is still an achiever in so many ways. Her greatest accomplishment is being able to do what she really loves.
Cleopatra is also glad she has been nominated twice for the Young Achievers Award.
Currently, Cleo has been nominated for the Pearl Film Festival Awards for best supporting actress. The festival will take place on the 8th-12th May at the national theatre and winners will be voted by sms. “I am much honored this shows that people do appreciate my work,” says Cleo as her face beams with joy and satisfaction.
She calls on the young people who want to join the film industry not to quit school. “If you have a chance, please stay in school. Then you can follow your dream, “she cautions the youth.
