Artist: Blu 3
Blu 3 is a pop group from Uganda that was started by Lilliane 'Lee' Mbabazi, Jackie Chandiru and Cinderella 'Cindy' Sanyu. Blu3 stands for 3 black ladies from Uganda. It is now made up of Lilian, Jackie and Mya aka Edith Baganda. Lee comes from western Uganda, Cindy and Jackie hail from the East and North respectively. They all grew up singing, leading choirs, etc
They won the Coca-cola popstars competition (2004) for Uganda and were molded into superstars as part of their winning package. In the aftermath, they went on a national tour (Uganda) and performed at various events across the African continent.
Their debut album, Hitaji (2004), caused major waves in Uganda and won a stream of awards. Hitaji means 'need' in Swahili which helped them gain fans from all over East Africa. Their second album, Burn, released in 2007, has been a major success and is poised to win them more awards.
They contributed some of the sales of their first album for the disadvantaged children of Sanyu babies' home and Masulita.
In 2008, Cindy left the group after a misunderstanding to pursue other interests. She was replaced by Mya who first performed with the group at the One Mic music concert in Dar-es-Salaam in 2007 in place of Cindy who was sick. Eventually, Mya was the one to step in as a member after Cindy went out. Mya or Edith was born in 1985 who grew up with four sisters. She started out with the Kombat dancers who mostly backed up artistes in concerts, etc. She eventually worked with the Obsessions gals but quit after a month. She auditioned for Blu3 later after Cindy had left and was chosen to replace her.
