Born Sylvester Ekot in Lagos Nigeria on 1978. Growing up with an obsession for poetry from the early 80’s fuelled his likeness for rap music. Having followed the footsteps of legends like Grandmaster Flash, Kool Wee Dee, Whoodiri and Erick B & Rakim on thru late 80’s and into the 90’s with the new school Hip-Hop. Alabai began to pen down his lyrics from the age of 10. In the 90’s the obsession grew beyond imagination as he formed his own rap band in 1995. The band was named Def – O – Clan.
The band successfully released an album in the year 2000 after series of hit singles which topped chats and eyed heavy rotational airplay. The band unfortunately folded up due to managerial ineptitude and poor management even after receiving series of awards and accolades. He gained admission into the University of Calabar – Nigeria to study Chemistry where he obtained his B.Sc in Chemistry in 2004. While in the University, he worked part time as an on air personality in C.R.B.C the state owned radio station. After his university education, he served a job as yet again another on air personality in Brilla FM situated in Victoria Island Lagos state. Having featured on several hit singles with blackface, paul play,paul ik dairo,sunnyNneji and many others he sojourned to pursue his dreams, Collaborating with a dynamic producer/ artiste known as Paul Play to record his debut album branded “The Calling” which hits stores soon.his video and song "gods voice" was a big hit in de charts.he is curently releasing his new dance single which is called "matche dem" and a video is following soon.he is also co hosting a show with m.i called "mad skillz" about a rap contest and is hitting STV channel on de 2nd of september.ALABAI is coming back in a big way...watch out 4 him.
